Description

Michele describes her artwork ‘Light Music’ as follows:

Art is an expression of one’s self. It displays the things that are important to me as an artist. Art should speak to the viewer and tell a story as expressed by the artist.  I chose to create an illuminated guitar to show my love of music. For me, music feeds the soul. It calms and soothes a troubled mind. Combining soft light with music will create a clam and peaceful space in which we can calm our inner beast, thereby nurturing and calming ourselves. This is a very important and nurturing task and one that embraces us all.

I started with recycled plastic, left over from our last exhibition. I used this to created the shape of the guitar, its body, neck and head for the acoustic string pegs. The neck I made from handmade paper using sticks I painted for the fret dividers. I predominantly used black paper for the neck and head. The nature of our handmade flax fibre paper has helped to create a very tactile and transparent property.

Michele’s sculpture has been illuminated by using battery operated purple electro-luminescent wire around the inside edges of the kidney shaped front  and back of guitar.
